Numanthia-Termes

Located close to the Ribera del Duero, the Toro designation area offers a few wines that are certainly worth an extra journey. The Bodega Numenthia-Termes is one of its crown jewels. It takes its name from a Spanish town, which legend says was destroyed in 133 BC after 20 years of fighting Roman invaders. Established in 1998 by the Eguren family, it is home to an estate of 40 hectares of ancient vines (between 70 and 100 years old), non-grafted and with minute yields. The vineyards of Tinto de Toro (the local name for the tempranillo variety) lies on sandy, chalky soil and clay subsoil. Wines are vinified and aged with the utmost care in new oak barrels. Bottling is carried out without filtering.
The Termanthia vintage is produced from prephylloxeric vineyards. This is one of the most exceptional wines to come out of a Spanish vineyard. Please note: this bodega was sold to the LVMH group at the end of the 2006 vintage.
