Despite a dry summer, the year was quite average, fairly similar to 1939. Although most of the wines are quite low in alcohol, their finesse makes up for this shortcoming. Latour and Léoville Las-Case distinguished themselves with their balance and longevity. The Sauternes could not have been more successful, with many elegant wines.
