Burgundy | 1991 vintage

A difficult vintage for Burgundy wines. After a rapid start, the vegetation was hindered by a cold spell that hit the vineyards. This came with snowfall and heavy frosts and, depending on the region, the damage was of varying degrees. The harvest was less ripe and more heterogeneous than 1990, nevertheless quality was preserved thanks to a considerably reduced production. These wines are quite severe, which makes them less appealing than the previous vintages that were immediately very pleasant to drink, and had a deep, intense texture and lovely balance. They have enough substance to allow the tannins (often too firm and austere), to soften. A vintage for laying down and an undeniably good vintage. Although as good as the red wines, the white wines did not generate much enthusiasm in their younger years. After maturing in barrels and ageing in bottles, they have become more ample and complex. Less rich and with a tighter framework than 1990, they are now beginning to assert their character and express their potential to the full.
