Information
The estate was founded in 2001, when the family’s five hectares of vines – previously leased out under sharecropping agreements – were brought back under direct management. Since the 18th century, the Burgundian family had overseen the C. Marey and Comte Liger-Belair wine-trading houses. Today, the vineyard extends over eight hectares across some of Burgundy’s most renowned appellations, including Richebourg, Vosne-Romanée, Clos de Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin.
In 2004, Thibault established a wine-trading business, Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs, through which he purchases grapes and farms a further 12 hectares of vines. In 2008, the winemaker expanded into Beaujolais – a region he discovered during his studies – settling in Moulin-à-Vent and creating Domaine des Pierres Roses.
Across these various ventures, the guiding philosophy remains the same: a pursuit of finesse and a constant effort to understand what each vine requires. The wines have already reached an impressive level and are widely regarded as among the region’s rising stars, combining substance with elegance.
This wine is produced from a Saint Georges parcel that has a total of 2.10 hectares. It was planted in 1944 on stony, brown limestone soil which produces rich, well-structured wines that have great potential for aging. It is aged in oak barrels of which 50% are new. A wine that has a wonderful substance and fine-grained, elegant tannins revealing pure fruit. One of this domaine's must-have wines. Saint Georges covers over one quarter of the appellation's total surface area (7.5 hectares).
