Laurent Roumier, the cousin of Christophe (from the George Roumier domain) has long been associated with his brother. Since 1991 he has managed a four hectare-domain of rented vineyards, which he increased to seven hectares in 2005. The vines, which are 35 years old on average, are tended to with environmentally friendly practices. These vineyards spread over the Bourgogne, Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny, Clos Vougeot and Bonnes-Mares appellations. Laurent Roumier traditionally cultivates and vinifies using the old methods of treading and pumping over, without a pre-fermentation "cold soak", followed by a 15 to 18 month maturation in oak casks.
A man of few words, Laurent is fairly secretive when it comes to his "savoir-faire". However, his mastery is highly regarded amongst enlightened connoisseurs. His range includes wines made to be enjoyed soon (La Poirelotte) as well as cuvées with excellent ageing potential.

This Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru comes from Domaine Laurent Roumier. Grandson of the renowned Georges Roumier, Laurent Roumier runs an estate of around 12 hectares in Chambolle-Musigny.
Following manual harvests, the grapes are destemmed and vinified in concrete vats. Fermentation lasts around 15 days, with daily punch-downs and pump-overs carried out under a controlled temperature. At the pressing stage, the wine is left to settle in vats for 12 hours before being transferred to oak casks (50% new oak for this Premier cru). Ageing lasts 15 to 18 months in oak.
This wine shows a striking ruby hue, with a nose of small red berries and Morello cherry, alongside earthy, spicy notes and a very subtle touch of oak. The palate is very delicate yet fleshy, with impressive length.
Cellar this wine for a few years to enjoy it at greater maturity. Serve at 16°C with roast pheasant, tournedos with bone marrow or coq au vin.
