About the producer

Domaine Tortochot is a family domain located in Gevrey. A lover of Burgundy wine, Gabriel Tortochot ardently defends the region, especially given his role as the president of Gevrey-Chambertin's viticultural union. He passed down this passion to his two daughters, Brigitte and Chantal. At the age of 35, Chantal decided to take over the family business. Having qualified as an enological technician, she now produces wines that reflect their terroir thanks to careful viticulture.

About the wine

The estate, rooted for generations in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, practises a hands-on, artisanal form of viticulture. Here, exploring organic farming practices started in 2003, and full organic conversion across the estate was completed by 2008. Grapes are harvested by hand and completely destemmed to preserve the purity and brightness of the fruit. In the winery, a pre-fermentation cold maceration lasting four to five days precedes a carefully monitored fermentation with regular punch-downs.
Domaine Tortochot owns a 0.61-hectare plot in the Lavaux Saint-Jacques Premier Cru, widely regarded as one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most prestigious climats. Nestled in the mid-slope of the Combe Lavaux, the plot benefits from the Combe breezes that flow through the vines, lending the wine its hallmark freshness. Often rich on the palate, wines from this area are quite different from those produced in the central part of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. More ethereal and fresh, nonetheless sapid and deep, they stand among the finest of the Côte de Nuits.
The expression produced by the Tortochot estate is no exception. Aged 15 to 18 months in French oak casks, half of which are new, this wine gains exceptional structure and age worthiness. Give it a few years in the cellar, your patience will be richly rewarded.
