Information
A Fine Arts graduate and painter, born into a family of artists, Bibi Graetz discovered his passion for wine in the late 1990s. In 2000, he established his estate in the village of Vincigliata, perched on the hillside of Fiesole, overlooking Florence. Driven by his passion for old vines, he assembled a patchwork of parcels spread across Tuscany, covering 80 hectares in total, with some vines more than eighty years old. The red wines are produced from traditional Tuscan grapes, including Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. For his white wines, Bibi showcases the exceptional heritage of Giglio Island, off the Tuscan coast, where Ansonica vines sink their roots just fifty metres from the wind-battered shoreline. In the vineyard and winery, the winemaker favours a natural approach, with spontaneous fermentations in open vats and ageing in old barriques. Bright, expressive wines, with labels reflecting the talent of this spirited winemaker-artist.
This Sangiovese is reminiscent of a great Burgundy from a really good vintage. Genuine freshness accompanies earthy aromas of dark fruit and mushrooms. This is topped off with all the usual intensity you would expect from a Tuscan wine.
