Information
Rooted in the Corsican viticulture landscape, Muriel Giudicelli stands out as a passionate, independent winemaker. Coming from a long line of wine lovers, she founded her estate in Patrimonio in 1997 with no oenological training but with a deep conviction to create vibrant wines that loyally reflect their terroir. Since her first harvest in 1998, Giudicelli has crafted expressive, energetic, elegant wines. Today, her 10.8-hectare estate in Poggio d’Oletta covers a mosaic of soils – schist, limestone, clay and granite – which give her wines a rare complexity.
Certified organic since 2006 and biodynamic since 2012, Muriel prunes her vines into a gobelet shape, searching freshness and balance. Vinification, started by native years and without any additives, respects the natural rhythm of wine – gentle pressing, patience maturation in large oak or Stockinger barrels.
Her husband, Stéphane, and an employee help her in this feat producing about 30,000 bottles per year. From delicate reds made from Niellucciu to pure white wines crafted from Vermentinu, Domaine Giudicelli’s wines demonstrate the sincerity of this artisanal work and the quiet strength of a terroir sitting between the sea and scrubland.
This single-variety Nielluccio (native variety) has been subject to a particularly careful vinification process designed to preserve its fruity character. Vinified from stemmed grapes, it has been matured in casks for a period of almost two years. Fleshy and energetic, its intense bouquet of black berries, spices and cocoa dictates time in the carafe before serving. Superb with regional delicacies, such as roast black pork with an aubergine gratin à la brousse.
