Information
Domaine Georges Noëllat was founded by Georges Noëllat, nephew of Charles Noëllat,?–?whose vines contributed to shape the estates of Jean-Jacques Confuron, Hudelot-Noëllat and Leroy,?–?and great-grandfather of the current owner, Maxime Cheurlin. Maxime Cheurlin took over the estate in 2010 after studying at the wine school in Beaune. He has devoted himself wholeheartedly to the estate, significantly raising the quality of its wines, notably through a much more precise and judicious approach to ageing. The estate has an exceptional vineyard portfolio, with Premiers Crus and Grands Crus in Vosne-Romanée, Échezeaux and Nuits-Saint-Georges, as well as several parcels of centenarian vines. The vines are tended entirely by hand, without the use of chemical treatments, while in the winery the wines are vinified using native yeasts. The estate’s wines are true gems.
A go-to Burgundy domain, Georges Noëllat shares his premiers and grands crus on the Vosne-Romanée appellation with domains like Romanée-Conti, Anne Gros and Méo-Camuzet. Maxime Cheurlin took up the domain in 2010, bringing a new energy with him. The style of these wines has turned to the terroir thanks to low-intervention vinifications and reduced use of new wood. Each parcel is vinified separately. All the work on the 5.5 hectares is carried out by hand, and fermentation is instigated by indigenous yeasts. This Beaux Monts premier cru is a real success. With superb volume and texture, its tannins are well-integrated with the rest of the palate. This wine can be aged for several decades, so it’s not for the impatient among you.
