Information
Scotland, Speyside. Distillery operational. Owner: Gordon & MacPhail.
Independent & family-ownedUntil it reopened on 3 August 1998, activity at the Benromach distillery was characterized by a series of short periods of production followed by long periods of mothballing. This cycle ended in 1993 when the independent bottlers Gordon & MacPhail bought the site and its small stock (the distillery ceased production on 24 March 1983). To celebrate the site's opening, an expression celebrating the distillery's 100 year anniversary was produced, the Benromach Centenary Bottling 1898-1998, limited to 3,500 bottles. It was the first in a long series, with the new owners releasing numerous new bottlings to make up for lost time.
A Speyside single malt distilled at the Benromach distillery (which closed on 24 March 1983), aged for at least 19 years and bottled in 2002 by the new owners (1993), independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. A limited edition of 2,000 bottles double-matured for 16 years in sherry casks, followed by three years in port (pipe) casks. Bottle equipped with a cork stopper and stamped Bordeaux foil seal.Along with the Benromach Centenary anniversary edition (1998), this version is one of the very rare official bottlings still available from the last century.
