Information
Jean-Marie Fourrier took over the 10 hectare family domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin in the 1990s at the age of 23. He gained his experience at Domaine Drouhin and from the legendary Henry Jayer and took over the family traditions. He has plots in Griotte-Chambertin and in the Clos St Jacques whose vines were planted at the beginning of the last century. Jean-Marie Fourier works his vines as naturally as possible, with very little intervention and with minimal use of sulphites and new wood. His wines are of a very high standard and are characterised by their great aromatic purity
The Les Chaumes climat owes its reputation to its exceptional location, just below La Tache and Les Malconsorts, close to the La Romanée Saint-Vivant Grand cru. The old Pinot Noir vines thrive beautifully in these exceptional terroirs, and are meticulously pruned in winter. All chemical fertilisers and weedkillers are prohibited to favour a gentler, more environmentally friendly approach to viticulture. The grapes are hand-picked at peak ripeness and rigorously sorting. Extractions are gentle and sulphur is used in minimal quantities during the winemaking process. The cuvée is then aged for several months in barrels before being bottled.
The intense garnet-red reveals a complex and expressive bouquet, opening on aromas of cherry and blackberry combined with hints of spices and clove. The round and flavourful palate delicately leads to a persistent and fruity finish.
