Information
The origins of the Domaine Sylvain Cathiard et Fils date back to the 1920s when Alfred Cathiard began to acquire the first parcels of vines in Vosne. The wine heritage of the family is very prestigious with very fine plots of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny and Romanée-St-Vivant. The domaine is now managed by Sylvain Cathiard and his son Sébastien. Their wines are of a very high quality and are almost impossible to find in France. They are characterised in particular by their great finesse and their harmony.
The Pinot Noir vines, which lie below the iconic village of Gevrey-Chambertin, are planted in several parcels enjoying an ideal eastern exposure. Each vine, rooted in clay-limestone soils, draws all the nutrients it requires to thrive, and benefits from meticulous, balanced viticulture. Once harvested, the grapes are vinified according to the purest Burgundy tradition. The cuvée is then aged for 18 months in oak casks, with 40% new wood, before being bottled.
The dark ruby-red colour reveals an expressive nose characterised by notes of blackcurrant and vanilla complemented by subtle hints of coffee. The rich, elegant palate reveals a beautiful tannic structure leading to a fruity, spellbinding and particularly long finish. This cuvée can be enjoyed young and also after several years of cellaring.
