Information
Passionate about winemaking, Olivier Bernstein decided to study viticulture and enology in Beaune and started out as a wine grower in Languedoc. Thanks to his success at the Mas de la Devèze, he could not resist the temptation to return to his first love, Burgundy. In 2007, he created an eponymous maison to vinify the Burgundy premier and grand crus and finally, in 2012, he became an owner of parcels of land located in Mazis-Chambertin and Gevrey-Chambertin.
Olivier Bernstein’s story is unique. A passionate man (just visit his website to feel his enthusiasm shine through his writing), he graduated in viticulture and oenology in Beaune, first launched the Mas de la Dévèze estate in the Languedoc region, before founding his trading business in Burgundy to dedicate himself to the region’s premier and grand crus. He presents us with a mythical Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from the Côte de Nuits, crafted from ancient vines that were already a venerable 80 years old when discovered in 2008. These vines are located at the heart of the clos, towards the south, going towards Vosne-Romanée. Designed for cellaring ten to fifteen years, the wine presents a ‘strong and robust’ character, according to the trader. The aromatic complexity is there, enlivened by a beautiful minerality, even?–?and especially?–?given time.
