Information
Yves Cuilleron likes good food and fine wine, and makes no secret of this. Viticulture has been in his blood for three generations so it was only natural for him to take over the family vineyard in 1987. His grandfather, Claude Cuilleron, planted the plot in 1920 and began bottling his own wine in 1947. Yves initially favoured a mechanised approach but his love of good wine led him back to a more traditional approach. He does not hold any certifications but his vineyards are tended meticulously with the goal of producing the best possible grapes. All the work is carried out by hand and chemical additives are prohibited. In the winery, vinification is traditional. Yves Cuilleron strives for overall harmony in his wines which are known for their elegant expression and finesse.
The Yves Cuilleron estate is proud to process grapes from a prestigious Côte-Rôtie vineyard, stretching along the right bank of the Rhône through the communes of Saint-Cyr-sur-le-Rhône, Ampuis and Tupins-et-Semons. The Syrah vines, which account for 80% of the vineyard, grow at altitudes of between 180 and 325 metres, on slopes with a 60% incline. After being harvested, the grapes are vatted in open temperature-controlled vats, with regular punching down and pumping over to extract all the fruit’s delicious aromas. Once spontaneous fermentations are complete, the wine is aged for a long period in barrels before bottling.
The deep black colour unveils a delicate, refined nose of red fruit, such as cherry and morello cherry, mingling with subtle hints of spice. The elegant and subtle palate reveals a beautiful balance of powerful ripe fruit aromas and incredible freshness, culminating in a long persistent finish.
