Information
The origins of the Domaine Sylvain Cathiard et Fils date back to the 1920s when Alfred Cathiard began to acquire the first parcels of vines in Vosne. The wine heritage of the family is very prestigious with very fine plots of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny and Romanée-St-Vivant. The domaine is now managed by Sylvain Cathiard and his son Sébastien. Their wines are of a very high quality and are almost impossible to find in France. They are characterised in particular by their great finesse and their harmony.
With the conviction that a great wine is first created in the heart of the vines, the estate applies organic viticulture practices to its parcels of Pinot Noir plots and throughout the rest of the vineyard. The vines planted on clay-limestone soils draw all the nutrients they require to thrive through their deep roots. Once harvested, the grapes are completely destemmed before fermenting and macerating for 22 to 30 days. The cuvée is then aged for 18 months in oak casks, with 25% new wood, before being bottled without fining or filtration.
The intense red colour is complemented by an expressive bouquet of red fruit harmoniously combining with aromas of spice. The rich, generous palate is dominated by fine tannins gently leading to a long, flavoursome finish. This cuvée offers several beautiful years of ageing potential.
