Information
Founded in 1985 by Laurence Gagnard and Richard Fontaine, the domaine perpetuates the family tradition by working 12 hectares of vines on horseback in Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Pommard.
Operating mostly under the radar, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard was established during the 1980s by Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard who now manage a dozen hectares of vines. They craft this white Chassagne-Montrachet using Chardonnay grapes grown traditionally within the Clos des Murées Premier Cru. There, with a south-east exposure, the vines benefit from the influence of the region's semi-continental climate, and draw the nutrients needed for their development from the pebble-rich soil composed of limestone and marl. In the cellar, the respect for tradition is continued and the wine is aged in oak barrels for a year.
Tasting reveals a wine with a pale yellow colour, golden glints and a thick rim indicating its character. The fragrance is a balancing act of white fruits, flowers, fresh almonds, baked goods and fresh butter. Full-bodied on the palate, with a fine minerality, it can be enjoyed in its youth or after up to ten years of cellaring.
