Information
In the heart of the Côte de Nuits' grands crus and spread over three of its renowned villages (Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée), domain François Confuron-Gindre has farmed Pinot Noir on clay-limestone soils for six generations. Traditional methods have been maintained throughout this time, with traditional élevages imparting good aging potential. The lunar calendar is respected, particularly during bottling. One thing is certain: each and every generation innovates and brings their own personal touch, all the while retaining age-old traditions.
We find Domaine François Confuron-Gindre at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, crafting this Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Chaumes from Pinot Noir grapes grown on vines planted in 1919. Cultivated using traditional methods, they flourish in rich, shallow soils. Work in the cellar follows traditional philosophies that involve ageing for 18 months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new. The nature of the terroir clearly has a strong influence on the profile of the wine. The rock can sometimes be 20 cm deep, giving the concentrated wine fine tannins. The ruby-red colour of this wine is intense and has violet glints. On the nose, we get notes of small red and black fruits, such as raspberries, blackcurrants and strawberries, which become enriched by hints of leather and humus in time. The texture of the wine is dense yet elegant.
