Information
Thomas Batardière keeps attracting the attention of Anjou and Chenin wine lovers. After learning the ropes alongside Mathieu Vallée, owner of Château Yvonne in Saumur, the winemaker turned to the Anjou region to cultivate vines around thirty years old, following environmentally friendly, organic principles. Here, he offers a French wine from the Montbenault terroir, which wine-lovers will no doubt be familiar with thanks to the exceptional work Richard Leroy has been doing for several years now. The Chenin vines used to produce this wine are encouraged to draw the nutrients they need to flourish from soils consisting of a little clay resting on a bedrock of spilite and rhyolite. The hand-picked grapes are placed in small crates to avoid bruising and the berries are pressed before the must is racked. The wine is aged in vats for a year and bottled without prior addition of any inputs, including sulphur.
Density and liveliness balance in a style of great precision.
