Information
The Domaine de la Solitude, located in Martillac near Bordeaux, was founded by the Sainte Famille religious community in the 19th century. Realising that working as winegrowers was difficult to reconcile with their contemplative life, the nuns decided to entrust the vineyard to Olivier Bernard, who agreed to lease the property for a period of 40 years. He passionately cultivates the 40 hectares of vines, including the region’s flagship grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Well aware of the current environmental concerns and with a view to protecting biodiversity, he cultivates his vines with the utmost respect for the land. A low-intervention vinification process starts once the grapes have been hand harvested. As a result, the estate offers fresh, fruity and delicious wines that perfectly reflect all the specificities of the terroir.
