Information
We’re heading for the Barossa Valley in the south of Australia to appreciate the work of the Sami-Odi estate, embodied here in this pure Syrah called Hoffman Dallwitz. This variety, originally from the Rhone Valley, has truly come into its own in the hands of winemaker Franser McKinley and his wife Andrea. They encourage the vines to dig their roots deep into the soil to draw the nutrients necessary for them to flourish, using environmentally friendly cultivation methods that give pride of place to biodiversity. With a view to promoting the terroir, the grapes are vinified with the utmost care and minimal intervention. Sulphur, for example, is used sparingly as a preventive antiseptic and antioxidant.
On tasting, the wine displays a dense ruby-red colour, indicative lots of character. The nose is intensely fruity revealing red and black fruit notes complemented by stewed and cooked fruit, along with hints of pepper and spices. The generous, full-bodied palate is perfect for pairing with meats in sauce, for example.
