About the wine
Red Hackle is a blend named after the red feather placed in the bonnets of Scotland’’s Black Watch infantry regiment, formed in 1881. The feather was a gift from King George III given in recognition of their bravery at the battle of Guildermalson in 1795. Red Hackle was launched in 1920 by Charles Hepburn, who had served in the regiment, and Herbert Ross. Both veterans of the First World War, their company was keen to employ former soldiers. Red Hackle was particularly popular in military bases during the Second World War.
