Information
In 1971, Aubert de Villaine, the man at the head of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, bought this Bouzeron property with his wife Pamela. It is in a far smaller setting than in the Côte de Nuits, where the Villaine couple make superb wines, both red and white. He was the great ambassador of the Classification of Burgundy Climats at the World Heritage of Humanity and applies the same methods to the DRC: biodynamic cultivation, natural winemaking, hand-picked and sorted grapes. His nephew Pierre de Benoist gradually took over the Villaine domaine (formerly called A & P de Villaine). The wines at Mercurey, Rully or Bouzero have become amongst the finest on the Côte Chalonnaise.
The result of meticulous blending between different plots of Pinot Noir, this cuvée brilliantly brings out all the facets of the terroir and all the flavours of the grape variety. Each parcel of vines receives unique and meticulous care, applying the principles of organic farming. Fertilisers and chemical weed killers are not used, allowing all the specificities of the Pinot Noir to emerge naturally. These efforts are paying off, as the viticulture methods used enable the production of harvests with balanced yields that perfectly reflect the potential of the terroir. The same philosophy is applied in the cellar. Vinification is carried out using minimal intervention and with minimal amounts of sulphur.
The garnet-red colour with bright glints unveils an expressive nose marked by aromas of small red fruits with peppery notes. On the palate, a unique balance is created between a fine acidity and a great freshness, which is enhanced by ripe and silky tannins, leading to a long finish.
