Information
Lucien Le Moine is a haute-couture trader/farmer maison created by Mounir Saouma and Rotem Brakin, a Lebanese couple. After the husband spent some time in a monastery and a first attempt at the art of making wine, then embarked on enology studies, he created his structure in 1999 to offer wine from the finest terroirs. The name of the maison comes from the nickname that his friends gave him as a result of his education in the Cistercian cloister: "Le Moine", the Monk. Lucien was the name given to him by the monks. Today, he produces 38 different crus, ranging from village wines to grand crus. The vinification and élevage are very precise and well done, as delicately and naturally as possible. A must-see.
With a reputation for being one of the finest grand cru appellations in the Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin is the birthplace of some of the most exceptional red wines in the world. The Pinot Noir vines used to produce this wine grow at an altitude of between 240 and 280 metres. The clay-limestone soils, combining brown earth, silt and gravelly scree, provide each vine with all the nutrients it requires to thrive. In the winery, the harvested grapes are carefully vinified following gentle methods with little intervention.
The rich, intense ruby-red colour reveals an expressive bouquet of wild berry aromas beautifully combining with subtle hints of black pepper. On the palate, the clean attack is complemented by a beautiful roundness and perfect balance, leading to a long, fragrant finish. This 100% Pinot Noir can be enjoyed while young or after several years of cellaring.
