Information
Roger Belland represents the fifth generation of his family at the head of the domaine where he works with his daughter Julie. The 23-hectare vineyard extends over the appellations of Santenay, Maranges, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard, with many premier and grand crus. It is managed in a responsible, sustainable manner with grassy vines. The wines of this domaine are of a high standard: the clean white wines offer a good potential for aging and the reds are rather full-bodied.
Nestled in the heart of a charming hamlet in Chassagne-Montrachet, the vines of Morgeot, ideally exposed to the south-east, stand mid-slope. The origins of this terroir can be traced back to the 15th century, when the Abbé de Maizières decided to revitalise the area and plant vines. The soil, mostly consisting of clay and limestone, provides the vines of Pinot Noir with all the nutrients they require to thrive. The hand-picked fruit is vinified following traditional methods and matured in open vats. The cuvée is then cellared for several months in oak casks before being bottled.
The ruby-red colour is complemented by a nose bursting with intense aromas of blackcurrant. The round, suave palate reveals aromas of red fruit combined with flavours of mocha, culminating in a fresh and persistent finish. This cuvée offers several beautiful years of ageing potential.
