Information
The story of this estate started in 2006 when Adrien Berlioz moved to Savoy. The younger cousin of his neighbour Gilles Berlioz, the winemaker has been producing cuvées packed with vitality and authenticity from his 20 hectares of vines in Chignin. The vineyard includes a rich variety of terroirs and plots of land, and multiple grape varieties allowing for the production of wines with highly distinct aromas. The soil is regularly tilled by hand and grass cover is applied to ensure each vine draws all the nutrients and minerals it requires from the earth. The grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness and vinified in stainless steel vats to preserve their energy and freshness. Interventions and the use of sulphur are also kept to a minimum. Certified organic since 2009 and Demeter biodynamic since 2020, Adrien Berlioz works in a way that respects the vines, biodiversity and the human touch required to make lovely wine.
At the heart of the Savoie PDO, this cuvée, cultivated on the ‘La Ravinée’ parcel on the edge of the commune of Arbin, restores the Mondeuse grape to its former glory, a variety long mistakenly associated with Syrah. It benefits from soils of varying geological profiles, mainly stony loam, with some traces of clay.
The domain, biodynamic accredited, produces its cuvées on 5 hectares of land with tremendous energy, adding a contemporary touch to the pure Savoyard identity. The hand-picked berries are cold-macerated for 12 to 24 hours, then vatted for a fortnight. The wine is aged in large barrels (600-litre demi-muids).
Once bottled, a wine with an immediately crisp structure emerges. Blueberry and strawberry aromas prevail, complemented by light spicy and floral notes. Age this wine for ten years or so and it will deepen as it develops denser aromas of coffee and caramel.
