Information
Antonin Rodet has gone hand in hand with Mercurey since it was founded in 1875 by Antoine Rodet, nicknamed Antonin. In the 19th century, his father François Rodet ran a wine merchant business, which flourished with the economic expansion of the time and the arrival of the railway. The story took a decisive turn when Antoine married Marie-Françoise Adenot, a farmer’s daughter and heiress of land near Mercurey. Over the years, the family’s assets continued to grow. After Antoine passed away in 1905, his son Antonin took over the family business, retaining his father’s pioneering vision and developing a wide range of promotional items bearing the family name. Though Maison Antoine Rodet is no longer owned by the family, the spirit of the father and son, who founded this internationally renowned wine trading house, still permeates its walls.
Antonin Rodet is a wine merchant from Burgundy which was founded in the 19th century under the inspiration of its namesake. The original family are no longer in charge but you can still acquire and appreciate this Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru made from Chardonnay grapes, a noble white grape variety from Burgundy. Grown in an oceanic climate with semi-continental influences, it has drawn the nutrients it needs to develop from soils composed of limestone and marl, giving it the perfect balance between freshness and boldness. Add to this the ageing in wooden barrels and the wine is endowed with a strong enough body to stand the test of time. Upon tasting, we are presented with a yellow wine which is slightly golden, with glints in its youth, and a golden colour that develops naturally after some time in the cellar. Its fragrance is rich, evoking notes of truffle, hummus, white, yellow and citrus fruits, as well as almond and a hint of hazelnut. This is a wine that will last up to 30 years in the best vintages, and is best served at cellar temperature (around 14°C) with unctuous dishes.
