About the producer

Agathe Bursin took over plots of family vines in 2000 that were first planted by her great-grandparents as a polyculture back in the 19th century. This winemaker who has this wine flowing through her blood studied viniculture and the legal aspect of growing vines and crafting wine. She creates beautiful, fine Rieslings that reflect the terroirs that produce them.
A large part of the seven-hectare property is located in the Zinnkoepflé Grand Cru and the estate gained organic certification in 2020. In the winery, intervention during vinification is kept to a minimum and the white wines are matured in stainless steel, while the reds are aged in barrels that have already been used several times. The amount of sulphur added remains reasonable, even for the sweet wines. Due to its size, production is small but highly worth trying.

For more information, read our article on the estate on the iDealwine blog.

About the wine

These Pinot Noir vines grow on marl and limestone soils and are cultivated in accordance with sustainable practices that respect the strict principles of organic farming. No chemical fertilisers or weedkillers are used in the vineyards, to allow the vines to draw all the nutrients they need from the soil. Following a meticulous manual harvest, the grapes are vinified in a low-interventionist style to allow the fruit to develop all its aromas. After macerating for around eight days, the grapes ferment naturally, then the wine is matured for around 18 months in barrels before bottling.
The deep ruby colour with violet hints reveals a powerful bouquet of floral fragrances with subtle coffee notes. The silky texture and fine tannins on the palate gently lead to a long, flavoursome finish. The wine offers great ageing potential.
