About the producer

The story begins some five centuries ago, when Jean Girard began cultivating his own vines in Savigny-Les-Beaune. The passion for wine having been passed down from one generation to the next, Jean-Jacques Girard eventually established his own vineyard to preserve and perpetuate the unique expertise inherited from his family. In 2008, his son Vincent joined him to nurture the domain’s fifteen hectares of vines. The Pinot Noir, Aligoté and Chardonnay vines spread across some of the region’s most beautiful communes, including Pernand-Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton, Volnay, Pommard and many others. The viticulture methods employed are entirely based on a deep-rooted respect for the terroir and biodiversity, reconciling traditional, ancestral expertise with precise, modern technology. The domain’s parcels, classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2015, produce the great wines that have earned the region its reputation.

About the wine

A splendid Grand Cru appellation in the Côte de Beaune, Corton Charlemagne is home to a terroir with a history stretching back several centuries. These vines were donated to the Church by the Emperor Charlemagne in 775. Exclusively planted with Chardonnay vines, the vineyard of the appellation rises at an altitude of about 300 metres on soils consisting of marl, clay and limestone. In the vineyard, the estate tends to each parcel with the utmost care and precision. The vineyard holds the French Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value) certification. In the winery, the harvested grapes are vinified following traditional methods and aged in oak casks for 14 months.
The golden colour complemented by green reflections reveals an intense nose characterised by white floral notes such as honeysuckle, combined with notes of lemon and vanilla. The ample and generous palate reveals a beautiful substance leading to an incredibly long finish. This cuvée promises excellent ageing potential.
