    Information
    About the producer

The Canalicchio di Sopra estate was established in 1962 by Primo Pacenti, one of the driving forces behind the founding of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium in 1967. This organisation brought together small and large vineyards with the shared ambition of producing premium quality wines with the utmost respect for the environment and biodiversity. The estate, situated to the north of Montalcino, stretches over 60 hectares of land, including 15 hectares of vines. Simonetta, Marco and Francesco are the third generation to craft wines from this exceptional terroir. Together, they respect and apply the traditional techniques they learned from their parents, and combine them with new technologies adapted to their growth objectives and sustainable philosophy. The vines, aged between 20 and 40 years, yield premium quality fruit that produces distinctive, flavourful cuvées that have repeatedly been acknowledged and praised in international competitions.

    About the wine

The Sangiovese vines, nestled at a high altitude, benefit from a balanced exposure and the Mediterranean sea air which allow the grapes to reach exceptional ripeness. The vines, growing on mineral-rich soils, primarily composed of clay, thrive thanks to the benefits of healthy and sustainable viticulture. In the cellar, vinification is carried out using a low-intervention method to allow the Sangiovese grapes to naturally express their flavours. The grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats and maceration for 20 to 28 days. Finally, the wine is aged in oak barrels for several months before being bottled.
The ruby-red unveils intense garnet-red glints promising an intense bouquet. The nose is marked by aromas of spice with notes of ripe red fruits. The rich and elegant palate reveals fine tannins leading to a generous and long finish.
