Information
Situated on the hillside of Santo Stefano Belbo in Piedmont, this charming ten-hectare estate has been renowned for producing Moscato d’Asti for almost 150 years. Alexandro has been running the estate since the early 1990s, and his watchword is quality over quantity. In the vineyard, the winemaker applies basic, artisanal practices, akin to organic farming. Neither fertilisers nor chemical weedkillers are used, to make way for more precise and careful work of the soil. In the winery, the harvested grapes are vinified in a non-interventionist way to produce remarkable, perfectly balanced cuvées with a rich and varied aromatic spectrum. The estate released its first vintage in 1997 and continues to surprise the greatest Italian connoisseurs with its authentic cuvées, true mirrors of a unique terroir and rigorously balanced expertise.
The vines, on average 70 years old, are entirely harvested by hand to preserve the fruit. The grapes enjoy regular ripening thanks to their ideal southern exposure. In terms of climate, the cold winters and rainy autumns provide the freshness and minerality the grapes require to thrive. Placed in stainless steel autoclaves, the juices settle overnight before undergoing spontaneous fermentation triggered by the native yeasts naturally present on the berries. The wine is then bottled and placed in sand-covered wooden crates in a room for 60 months under temperature- and humidity-controlled conditions.
The golden colour is complemented by an intense nose of acacia honey, sage and mint, with subtle hints of citrus fruit. The fresh, persistent palate delicately leads to a delicious persistent finish. This cuvée offers several years of ageing potential.
