Information
Founded in 1985 by Laurence Gagnard and Richard Fontaine, the domaine perpetuates the family tradition by working 12 hectares of vines on horseback in Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Pommard.
Established in the 1980s, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard’s vineyards cover a dozen hectares in the Côte de Beaune region, covering fine appellations such as Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard and Volnay. This Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru White Les Vergers is produced from Chardonnay vines cultivated meticulously and rigorously, following the rhythm of the seasons. The vines, with southern and south-western exposure, have drawn the nutrients necessary for their development from soils consisting of gravel and shallow, iron-rich red earth. The soils are given special attention, with ploughing, regular analysis and sensible vine plants cultivation.
In the winery, traditional methods are the order of the day. Native yeasts initiate fermentation and the wine is matured in oak casks for a year, with 30% to 40% new wood.
Designed for ageing for around ten years, this full-bodied wine is balanced by a beautiful energy reflected in its natural acidity. In the glass, aromas of almond, white fruit and citrus come through.
