Information
Founded in 1985 by Laurence Gagnard and Richard Fontaine, the domaine perpetuates the family tradition by working 12 hectares of vines on horseback in Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Pommard.
Established in the prestigious Côte de Beaune in the 1980s, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard produces wines from the finest appellations such as Pommard, Volnay and… Chassagne-Montrachet. This cuvée showcases Pinot Noir in a superb blend of grapes sourced from different parcels, including Voillenots Dessus, Mouchottes, Benoites, Battaudes and Puits Merdreaux. This noble grape variety was originally planted between 1938 and 1987 over a surface area of just under 1.5 hectares. Thanks to an ideal southern to south-eastern exposure, the vines were able to draw the nutrients necessary to thrive from the limestone and marl soils.
In the winery, low-intervention is the order of the day. Native yeasts trigger fermentations. The wine then ages for 18 months in casks, with 40% new wood.
Tasting reveals a seductive wine that can be appreciated in its youth, though you should wait at least three years before drinking it, to savour the fruit and roundness that characterise it.
