Information
The Bugey wine region is being revitalised by a new wave of dynamic young winemakers, like François Galeyrand, who settled there in 2019. After spending several years alongside his brother Jérôme in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Côte de Nuits, François decided to settle in the lesser-known terroirs of Bugey, in Ceyzérieu near Belley. He tends 4 hectares of vines at the foot of the majestic Grand Colombier peak, which soars to 1,534 metres.
Chardonnay, Aligoté and Mondeuse are his main focus, crafted with striking finesse and purity by this rising star. In the vineyard, the terroir is respected, as reflected in the estate’s ongoing conversion to organic and biodynamic farming (Demeter). In the winery, François follows a relatively low-intervention approach, using little to no added sulphur, and drawing inspiration from the Burgundian methods he learned in Gevrey. Ageing takes place in a variety of vessels, including 228-litre oak casks. A true hidden gem to discover without delay!
