Information
Bruno Clair is the grandson of Joseph Clair (from Domaine Clair Daü). He founded his own domain in 1979 in Marsannay before later inheriting some of the parcels from his grandfather's domain. The estate is thus made up of myriad, high-quality parcels, notably in Marsannay, Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Pernand-Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton and Fixin with emblematic crus such as Bonnes Mares, Clos de Bèze and Corton-Charlemagne.
Excellent maturation and precise vinifications help to best express these magnificent terroirs. The wines made here are very precise and fine, with no lack of elegance or intensity.
This range is broad and varied; the rosé and Bourgogne blanc cuvées will go nicely with tapas, whilst the grands and premiers crus can be served with your very best recipes after a few years in the cellar. This is an estate at the top of Burgundy.
In 2010, Édouard, their eldest son, joined the Bruno Clair estate, followed by siblings Margaux and Arthur in 2018. Today, Édouard manages the vineyards and expertly oversees winemaking, Arthur manages the cellar and has a hand in the winemaking alongside his brother, while Margaux manages logistics alongside helping out in the vineyards.
In order to tackle drought conditions, the Bruno Clair estate has installed an irrigation system for its young vines in Les Longeroies, a rare practice in Burgundy.
The Chardonnay vines, averaging 35 years, thrive on mostly clay-limestone soils. Located at an altitude of around 280 metres, they enjoy an ideal south-easterly exposure, providing plenty of sunshine ideal for viticulture. Once harvested, the grapes are carefully vinified, with around 40% whole bunches. The fruit undergoes a lengthy maceration in wooden vats for ten to fifteen days. The cuvée is then aged for 18 months in oak casks and foudres (large capacity casks) before being bottled.
Let’s proceed with the tasting. The pale golden colour promises an intense and expressive bouquet. The nose is indeed characterised by generous aromas of white flowers. The rich and fleshy palate displays delicate notes of acacia beautifully combined with hints of vanilla This elegant, complex cuvée can be cellared for several years.
