Information
Located in the Hesse region in Germany, the famed domain Keller has made a reputation for itself thanks to its Rieslings from old, low yielding vines. This domain has been in the same family for 10 generations. It stands out for producing some of the best-scoring Rieslings in Germany.
The Frauenberg Spätburgunder GG - Großes Gewächs is a red cuvée crafted by the renowned and talented German winemaker Klaus Peter Keller. The abbreviation GG - (Großes Gewächs) stands for the highest level classification of dry wines (Trocken). Comparable to Pinot Noir in a Burgundy style, this cuvée is a real gem for lovers of fine red wines.
It is made exclusively from the Spätburgunder grape variety grown on the steep slopes of the Frauenberg vineyards, where the soils are rich in minerals. The bunches, coming from vines that are around 20 years old, are harvested by hand. The maceration period is done using between 40 and 50% whole bunches, followed by ageing for 18 months in French oak barrels.
The result is a complex and elegant wine, revealing subtle aromas of fresh fruits and compote, intense cherry and berry flavours, enriched by hints of oak and enhanced by a touch of spice. On the palate it seduces with its purity, directness, succulence and silky texture.
