Information
Laurent Ponsot, a wine-trading business run with passion in Burgundy, also cultivates seven hectares of vines in some of the region’s finest appellations. Convinced that quality raw materials are key to producing great wines, Laurent Ponsot collaborates with producers committed to cultivating their vines with the utmost respect for the land and biodiversity. The objective is to allow the terroir to express all its qualities through each vine. In the winery, the estate combines traditional Burgundian expertise with the latest technology to produce wines in a more sustainable approach. Vinification involves minimal intervention and sulphur is added in minute quantities. Whether the domain dons its merchant or winemaker cap, the ethos stays the same: to unveil all the characteristics and aromas of the terroir through each and every vintage.
The Pinot Noir vines, planted at an altitude of between 280 and 380 metres, nestle in the heart of the famous Gevrey-Chambertin appellation and benefit from an ideal east-facing exposure. The word ‘Gevrey’ derives from ‘chevrier’, a reference to the goats that used to roam the green hillsides of Burgundy. The particularly well-drained brown limestone soils provide each vine with all the nutrients it requires to thrive. In the cellars, the Pinot Noir grapes are vinified in a traditional, low-interventionist fashion, with limited use of sulphur.
The ruby-red colour unveils an elegant bouquet, characterised by scents of strawberry, blackberry and violet, accented by light floral notes and subtle hints of spice. The rich, full-bodied palate reveals silky tannins, perfectly integrated into a velvety texture, and leading with finesse to a fruity, persistent finish.
