    About the producer

Domaine Marguet in the commune of Ambonnay was founded by Emile Marguet in 1875. The 10 hectare property is currently run by Benoît Marguet, who trained as a wine grower in the USA and with Mumm. The vineyard has been certified biodynamic since 2009. Benoît Marguet treats his vines with phytotherapy (the infusion and decoction of medicinal plants) and aromatherapy (use of essential oils); he also ploughs his land with horses and allows the grass to grow around the vines. In the winery, the single parcel vinification process is clean and precise and uses virtually no sulphur. The élevage is very well executed. The outcome is some very fine champagnes that are full of character and go well with food. This domain is attracting more and more champagne lovers.

    About the wine

Shaman 19 cuvée is the very embodiment of the Marguet style. This Champagne is made from grapes grown in the Ambonnay and Bouzy Grand Crus, renowned for their exceptional Pinot Noirs. The blend is composed of 87% Pinot Noir and 13% Chardonnay which gives the cuvée richness and a remarkable complexity. Benoît Marguet practises biodynamic farming and aromatherapy to vinify his Champagnes, infusing his cuvées with a unique purity and vibrancy. Vinification and ageing are carried out in wooden barrels for nine months, allowing the wines to micro-oxygenate which helps aromas to develop.
Shaman 19 is fruity and chalky with great energy. Its golden colour and delicate bubbles herald an elegant nose with notes of citrus and minerality. On the palate, its round, fresh and flavourful with a persistent, mouthwatering finish. The number 19 refers to the year from which the majority of the base wines come from, in this case 2019. No dosage is not used which allows the terroir to fully express itself. What's more, very little sulphur is used, allowing this cuvée to express its full character.
