Information
Owned since 1940 by the Cournut family, Château de la Maltroye, located in Chassagne-Montrachet, has 13 hectares of vineyards, 70% of which are premier cru and two hectares are in Santenay. In the cellar, the whites are fermented in barrels with lees stirring, their élevage lasting 12 months. The reds undergo cold pre-fermentation and their barrel élevage lasts between 14 and 18 months. The domaine is managed by Jean-Pierre Cornut, a former aeronautical engineer. The wines are high-quality, fresh and fruity, with great potential.
This Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte from Château de la Maltroye, crafted from Pinot Noir reveals a dazzling and clear ruby to garnet hue.
On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet of black cherry and ripe raspberry, enriched with spicy notes of white pepper and clove. Subtle hints of undergrowth and leather add an elegant, earthy dimension to this superb red wine. On the palate, the wine offers a smooth, velvety attack, with a harmonious blend of red and black fruits, spicy nuances and a slight woody touch. The tannins are fine and silky, providing a refined texture. The finish is long and persistent, with a mineral and saline touch, typical of the terroir.
This Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru pairs beautifully with roasted red meats, poultry in sauce, mature cheeses, or mushroom-based dishes. Serve it at 16–18°C, ideally after a light decanting, to fully appreciate its nuanced profile.
