Information
When she took over from her father in 1988, as she was only 18, Anne Gros was a young energetic woman, more interested in books than in becoming a winemaker! Nevertheless, she took on alone the work in the vines and was responsible for vinification and managing the business. In 1990 she bottled all of the harvest and connoisseurs around the world discovered the strength, finesse, delicateness and precision of her wines. The domain was officially established in 1995. Within ten years, she made it into one of the best and most renowned domains from the Côte de Nuits. Besides Clos Vougeot, Vosne Romanée and Chambolle Musigny, other appellations from new plots were added to the range (Hautes Côtes de Nuits et Bourgogne for example).
Les Grands échézeaux Grand Cru from the Anne Gros estate originates from a 0.76 hectare parcel of Burgundy clay-limestone soil. This parcel, reintegrated into the estate in 2007 after being leased for 25 years, is known for its early ripening, requiring particular attention during the harvest, which is manual to guarantee the quality of the grapes. The winemaking process starts with cold maceration, followed by fermentation in open vats to gently extract the aromas and tannins. The juice is then matured for 16 to 18 months in oak casks, with a proportion of new wood, adding structure and complexity.
On tasting, this nectar displays a clear colour and a nose of rare elegance, with subtle, racy aromas of red and black fruit, enhanced by light peppery notes. On the palate, it is silky, light and yet intensely present, with delicate flavours of wild strawberry.
