The Deriaux family has inherited the expertise passed down through generations, rooted in the domain since the early 20th century. César and Jean-Baptiste Deriaux, the 4th generation of the family to run the estate, following in their mother Nicole’s footsteps, have modernised the winery and now skilfully manage the 11 hectares of vines set amidst meadows and forests.
Their environmentally friendly methods are currently undergoing organic conversion, and the winemaking processes in the winery are natural. With Savagnin, Chardonnay, Poulsard, and Trousseau grapes at their disposal, the two winemakers produce characterful wines: topped-up, straw wines, yellow wines, and other crémants. They have been selling their wines all over the world since 2000, flying the flag for the Jura region.
César continues to dream of further developing his property and is contemplating unique parcels near the Montbourgeau estate. Thanks to his skill and grasp of the terroir he is now a new star in the Jura galaxy.

César and Baptiste Deriaux present a superb topped-up Chardonnay, the only cuvée from the Domaine de Montbourgeau crafted in this style. The vines are planted in the "La Chaux" parcel, which has been cultivated since 1956. The soil here primarily consists of Bajocian limestone (a Jurassic rock) and grey marls found deeper in the ground. Domaine de Montbourgeau places great importance on vine health and practices sustainable viticulture. In this parcel, the ground cover is entirely natural.
In the winery, vinification is carried out using native yeasts, as is often the case with the estate, and the wine rests for 18 months in 400-litre oak barrels.
Upon tasting, we discover a lovely wine with an aromatic profile marked by yellow and even tropical fruits like peach and pineapple. On the palate, the nectar is powerful and creamy. The superb balance is truly striking. The Etoile Chardonnay La Chaux pairs beautifully with truffade or a Mont d’Or cheese.
