Information
Domaine Roche de Bellene was created in 2005 by Nicolas Potel after the purchase of several plots of vines ranging from Santenay to Vosne Romanée. The vines are aged from 50 to 110 years old and are grown organically. The domaine then launched a trading business under the name of Roche de Bellene which is discussed here.
Located in Vosne-Romanée in the heart of the prestigious Côte de Nuits, the Les Malconsorts climat neighbours the legendary La Tâche parcel. This Premier Cru takes its name from the Old French term “mal consorts”, a phrase used when referring to particularly challenging land. The Malconsorts terroir rests on deep clay-limestone soils scattered with stones, encouraging slow ripening of the grapes and yielding complex, full-bodied wines of great finesse. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness and are partially destemmed before fermentation occurs naturally in open vats with light punching down. The wine is aged for around 18 months in 50% new oak barrels before being bottled without filtration.
This intensely ruby-red wine with tints of garnet has a captivating bouquet marked by aromas of black fruits, violet, incense, fine leather and oriental spices. The palate is full and structured with silky tannins.
