Information
Located on the south side of the Côte de Beaune, in Santenay, the family estate has been passed down from Father to Son since 1679. René Lequin, alongside his wife Josette Colin, daughter of a family of winemakers from Chassagne-Montrachet, ran the estate, which took his name in 1976. Nowadays, their son François tends the nine hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines, planted on some of the finest terroirs in the region. The Chardonnay vines are pruned with the Guyot method, while the Pinot Noir vines are pruned with the Cordon de Royat method, thus limiting yields and guaranteeing concentrated, fragrant grapes. The couple is convinced that respect for traditional expertise combined with cutting-edge technology is essential to producing great wines. Aware of current environmental challenges, they began converting to organic viticulture in 2009.
The village of Chassagne-Montrachet, once best known for its reds, is now firmly established as one of Burgundy’s great strongholds for white wines, notably through its prestigious Premier crus such as Les Vergers, ideally located mid-slope near the renowned climat Les Chenevottes. The Les Vergers climat lies on light, stony, well-drained clay-limestone soils with an easterly exposure. Domaine René Lequin-Colin, converted to certified organic farming in 2009, works with deep respect for the living ecosystem and a precise approach to winemaking. The grapes undergo gentle pressing followed by static settling before spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak casks, with 25% new wood.
The pale yellow hue is lifted by golden glints. The refined and complex, nose reveals aromas of ripe citrus, white flowers, frangipane and wet stone. Broad yet finely taut, the palate opens with a supple attack, combining mineral tension with aromatic richness.
