Located on the south side of the Côte de Beaune, in Santenay, the family estate has been passed down from Father to Son since 1679. René Lequin, alongside his wife Josette Colin, daughter of a family of winemakers from Chassagne-Montrachet, ran the estate, which took his name in 1976. Nowadays, their son François tends the nine hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines, planted on some of the finest terroirs in the region. The Chardonnay vines are pruned with the Guyot method, while the Pinot Noir vines are pruned with the Cordon de Royat method, thus limiting yields and guaranteeing concentrated, fragrant grapes. The couple is convinced that respect for traditional expertise combined with cutting-edge technology is essential to producing great wines. Aware of current environmental challenges, they began converting to organic viticulture in 2009.

Chassagne-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune, is one of Burgundy’s most renowned appellations for great Chardonnay-based white wines. The Clos Devant climat lies at the entrance to the village of Chassagne, a historic site cultivated for centuries and shaped by meticulous vineyard management and long-standing expertise. It rests on shallow clay-limestone soils with a high proportion of active limestone, contributing to the wine’s precision and mineral character. The grapes are harvested by hand at perfect ripeness to preserve the purity of the fruit. After gentle pressing, the must is clarified by settling before being transferred to oak casks, around 15% of which are new. Fermentation takes place in barrel, followed by approximately 12 months’ ageing on fine lees, with light stirring.
In the glass, the pale yellow hue is bright and clear. he refined, expressive nose combines aromas of fresh citrus and acacia blossom with a touch of hazelnut and a characteristic chalky minerality. Lively and precise, the attack leads into a taut, saline and persistent finish, marked by notes of wet stone and lemon.
