Information
An unmissable signature of Tuscany, Domaine Valdicava skillfully raises Sangiovese, the local grape, to its highest potential. The exceptional terroir, formed by Mount Amiata, allows the grapes to reach perfect ripeness and produce perfectly balanced wines.
From the terroir of Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy’s most prestigious appellations, this cuvée stems from Sangiovese vines planted in the northern sector of Montalcino. The elevated altitude brings freshness and elegance to the wine. The Madonna del Piano cru stems from a single vineyard planted on clay-limestone soils mixed with pebbles and marl. Harvesting is done by hand, with strict selection of bunches both in the vineyard and in the winery. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with a long four-week maceration period. Ageing last 48 months in large Slavonian oak foudres (large tuns), followed by at least 12 months’ rest in the bottle.
In the glass, the dark and deep ruby hue is elevated by garnet glints. The intense, complex nose reveals black cherry, ripe plum and violet, followed by notes of leather, undergrowth, bitter cocoa and liquorice, lifted by a delicate balsamic touch. The palate is broad and structured, displaying great strength.
