Information
Clos Louie is a micro-vineyard of barely three hectares, located in the commune of Sainte-Colombe on one of the finest clay-limestone terroirs of the Castillon plateau. The soil, rich in red clay over a bedrock of fossilised asteria limestone, gives the wines firm tannic structure and distinctive mineral tension. The grapes are hand-harvested, with rigorous sorting both in the vineyard and winery. Fermentation is spontaneous, without added œnological inputs, and the wine is aged for 18 to 24 months in French oak casks. No fining or filtration is carried out, in keeping with the estate’s natural winemaking philosophy.
The intense ruby-red hue shows garnet glints. The racy nose, reveals great depth driven by ripe red and black fruit, lifted by notes of undergrowth, liquorice and violet. On the palate, a generous, silky attack gives way to delicate, noble tannins carried by a mineral backbone typical of limestone soils.
