Information
Domaine Roblot-Marchand is located in Chambolle-Musigny, in the former heartland of the Abbey of Cîteaux, and spans the finest appellations of the Côte de Nuits. Established in 1910, the domain now owns nearly eight hectares of vines, which flourish on the sun-drenched slopes of this rich vineyard. Frédéric Roblot took over the family vineyard in 2001, closing down the wine merchant business initiated by his parents and deciding to bottle his own wine. In the cellar as well as in the vineyards, the winemaker adheres to the purest and most symbolic of Burgundy traditions, combining his methods with careful, meticulous soil cultivation. Once the grapes have been harvested entirely by hand, they are vinified with very little intervention. Domaine Roblot-Marchand is unquestionably one of the jewels in the crown of Burgundy’s winegrowing landscape.
The village of Chambolle-Musigny, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, is home to the climat Derrière le Four, named after its historic location close to a former communal oven once used by the villagers. The Pinot Noir vines thrive on clay-limestone soils mixed with pebbles and marl. Manual harvests are followed by rigorous sorting to retain only the healthiest bunches. Fermentation is carried out traditionally in open vats using native yeasts, allowing gentle extraction of colour, aromatics and tannins. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak casks, with 25% new oak.
In the glass, the wine reveals a bright ruby hue with garnet glints. The nose is subtle and elegant, revealing morello cherry, raspberry and violet, enhanced by hints of peony, sweet spice and a fine mineral touch. On the palate, the wine displays a silky, delicate texture, supported by fine, finely chiselled tannins.
