Information
Thibault Liger-Belair took over the family domaine of Nuits-Saint-Georges in 2002, giving it its name. The domaine has been in the family since the 18th century and the trading establishments C. Marey and Comte Liger-Belair have been in existence since 1720. The vineyard spreads over a little over 7 hectares in Richebourg, Vosne-Romanée, Clos-de- Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Gevrey-Chambertin. The greatest care is taken of the vines which are worked organically. The wines have already reached a good standard and are one of the rising values of the region, offering wines which combine fine substance and finesse.
Les Belles Croix, a respected locality within the Nuits-Saint-Georges terroir, is known for producing Pinot Noir of remarkable finesse and concentration. The vines thrive on south- and south-east-facing slopes. where the clay-limestone soils, composed of fine marl and scattered pebbles, ensure good drainage and encourage deep rooting. Manual harvests are followed by strict sorting to retain only perfectly healthy, fully ripe berries. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts during a 20-day maceration, with gentle pump-overs and punch-downs. The wine is then aged for 12 months in cask, with 35% new oak.
In the glass, the wine reveals a ruby-red hue graced with purplish glints. The complex and refined nose offers ripe red and black fruit lifted by floral notes. On the palate, the silky texture is carried by fine tannins and a poised balance of power and freshness, leading into a long, gently spiced finish.
