Information
Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, the Domaine Morey-Coffinet is a 8.5 hectare vineyard resulting from joining the domaines of Marc Morey and Fernand Coffinet. Most of the vineyards are located in Chassagne-Montrachet, including the famous premier crus la Romanée, Remilly and les Caillerets, but the domaine also has plots in Puligny-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. The vines are grown organically (under certification) and the aging is done in oak barrels which can be up to 60% new depending on the vintages and cuvées.
Planted close to Meursault, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the Chardonnay vines thrive on clay-limestone soils composed of white marls and limestone scree. The limestone brings tension and mineral precision, while the clay lends fullness and roundness to the wine. The grapes are carefully hand-picked at peak ripeness, and undergo a long, gentle whole-bunch pressing before fermenting in oak casks with native yeasts. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 14 months, before bottling with light filtration and trace amounts of sulphur.
In the glass, the pale gold hue shows silvery glints. The nose is defined by white fruit, citrus and white flower aromas, lifted by delicate hazelnut notes. On the palate, a fresh attack leads into generous fullness, culminating in a persistent saline finish.
