About the producer

In 1999, Jean-Baptiste officially took over Domaine Michel Bouzereau, proudly adding ‘et fils' to the estate name. This producer inherited a well-established family history, since the Bouzereaus have been making wine in Meursault for 7 generations. Observant and attentive, Jean-Baptiste spends most of his time in the vineyard, carefully watching the vines and working on the soil, convinced as he is that healthy fruit is the key to fine wine. The vines are grown sustainably with a philosophy moving towards organics. In 2008, he finished working on his new winery, giving him much more space to take care of each of his cuvées individually and adapt to their rhythm. The wines all come from parcels in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Beaune, Pommard and Volnay, each of them increasingly appreciated for their elegance and finesse. Each of them respect the specificity of terroir and vintage.

About the wine

Les Vignes Franches is regarded as one of Beaune’s finest Premier Crus. The Pinot Noir vines are ideally positioned on a south-facing slope at around 240 metres in altitude. The parcel behind this wine covers approximately half a hectare and rests on clay-limestone soils, with an exposure that promotes even, complete ripening. The grapes are hand-harvested at peak ripeness. In the winery, vinification follows a traditional, low-intervention approach. The wine is aged for 12 months in cask, with 30% new oak, followed by a further 4 months in vat.
In the glass, the wine shows a ruby-red hue of fine intensity. The generous nose is shaped by aromas of red fruit, Morello cherry and ripe cherry. On the palate, a dense core is framed by present yet well-integrated tannins, leading into a fruit-driven, persistent finish.
