Domain: Château Climens Château Climens, owned by the Lurton family since 1971, is undoubtedly one of the world's greatest fortified wines. Its vineyard stretches over 30 hectares of Sémillon. Its soil is comprised of fine gravel and red sand over a calcareous bedrock. The vines have an average age of 35 years, with annual renewal around the 3 to 4% mark. Yields here remain some of the lowest in the appellation in order to obtain unique levels of concentration. Harvest workers carefully select grapes that are rich in botrytis cinerea (Sauternais' famous noble rot). After fermentation in oak barrels, the wine is aged for two years before being bottled.
